About natural gas

What is natural gas?

Natural gas is an odourless and colourless fossil fuel, formed from the decomposed remains of plants and animals. Over millions of years, this decomposition creates natural gases (mainly consisting of methane) that become trapped in rock formations, deep underground.

A natural source of fuel

Natural gas consists mainly of methane - a natural, non-toxic and non-carcinogenic by-product of animal digestion and vegetation decay.

Lower carbon emissions

The cleanest burning of all fossil fuels, natural gas produces the least amount of carbon dioxide - a major cause of the enhanced greenhouse effect.

High safety standards

Natural gas is lighter than air and disperses easily in the event of a gas leak, making it a safer alternative to other combustible fuels, like coal.
